I am an oldest child I would like to refer to it as being the guinea pig child, it has been forever since my parents have gone to school so needless to say things have changed since they were in college. Towards the start of my senior year in High School I had tons people who were getting paid by, my parents, or indirectly from educational programs, or tax dollars thinking they knew what was best for me. This advice was great, but a lot of the time just wasn’t nailing it. Yeah I wanted to succeed in college, but I also wanted to have fun, and have that student life that is often portrayed in movies, or when people talk about their college experiences.
This advice was leading me towards Utah State University which isn’t a bad school at all I have tons of friends who have gone and plan on going there. What I didn’t know at that time Utah State University wasn’t for me. It wasn’t until I went to Dixie State College at the time, now Dixie State University where everything clicked. It was there on a Red Storm Retreat for prospective students for a trip that started out as a vacation would make me choose Dixie. The reason was the student ambassadors, students who were current students, telling future college students why they should be come to Dixie. Yes it had the generic spill, but what I liked was the for students by students information. Yes they promoted the college, but they would give inside tips of why they choose Dixie, what they did for fun, and little secrets about the school and town, that I would only find out from current students.
Let’s flashback to now, and what that experience has done for me. I am currently a business major and just completed my associates of Business at Dixie State University. I have had tons of fun experiences meet tons of really cool people from all over the world. I even had the chance to perform on the Great wall of China! Maybe it is my business major mindset, and just who I am, but doing things from DECA a school marketing club, to Student Government, and just being active in college I found not all of the secrets, but many of the secrets to living the student life.
I don’t claim to be a know it all, but I feel between my experiences, my friends, you and other students we can share the secrets of living the student life.
